The ketogenic diet basically is to starve the body of carbohydrates and go into an intermittent fast or time-restricted feeding which essentially depletes the body of glucose and glycogen and then starts to burn the bodies own fat which would then in return create ketones. ketones are the only substance aside from glucose that can fuel the brain and get through the blood-brain barrier because it is water soluble this is a huge benefit from the diet as it is turning out to be a miracle food for the brain thoughts are clearer thinking is more precise decision making is much better the keto diet also introduces different aspects of cell regeneration in the body through time restricted feeding you will trigger a pathway by the name of ampk which in return triggers atophogy. Atophogy basically means to consume oneself what happens during the state of a atophogy is the cells within the body then begin to seek out and recycle destroyed or broken cells in the event to create new and better ones. so there are a few things to look at when moving into the zone of time restricted feeding and fasting along with the ketogenic diet. So the statistical ratio involved in feeding is 80% fat 30% protein and 3% carbohydrates during the entire diet you should establish a state of ketosis within two to three days and then also subsequently accomplished state of atophogy within about 14 days of the diet. You will then need to acquire a delicate balance between mtor and ketosis and atophogy. Fat should be of a clean source that will contribute to HDL cholesterol I would prefer avocado coconut oil olive oil MCT oil. You can get your protein from lean meats if you are not the meat eater you can go with a protein shake. Your carbs can come from a handful of nuts. Your time restricted feeding or fasting could consist of anywhere between 8 to 12 hours so you are able to drink coffee or tea during your fasting time its best to stay away from supplementing things like branched chain amino acids. Personally I would not Advocate the ketogenic diet for more than a 3 month period It is not something that you should be doing on a consistent basis it is a great idea to start something like atophogy within the body it is also been known as the internal medical doctor if you will. And of course the added bonus would be that you would be burning a large percentage of your fat what's incredibly important is that you stay on a relatively light workout plan during the course of the diet concentrating mostly on aerobic activity and not so heavily on resistance training.
